Valve's latest hardware release has turned into a feeding frenzy. The newly redesigned Steam Controller sold out within half an hour of its launch in several major regions, leaving thousands of gamers empty-handed. Within minutes of the stock vanishing, listings for the controller appeared on resale platforms, with prices reaching up to three times the original retail cost.
The shortage was most acute in North America and parts of Western Europe, where the initial allocation evaporated almost instantly. Reports from online forums show users struggling to complete checkout before the item was marked unavailable. Some buyers claimed they had the controller in their cart only to see it disappear before they could confirm the purchase.
Scalpers wasted no time exploiting the demand. On secondary marketplaces, the controller is now listed between 250 and 350 dollars, compared to its launch price of around 100 dollars. This markup has drawn sharp criticism from the gaming community, with many accusing resellers of ruining the launch for genuine fans.
Valve has not yet commented on when additional stock will arrive. The company's previous hardware releases have also faced supply constraints, but this sellout is notably faster than earlier launches. For now, anyone hoping to get the controller at its intended price will have to wait and hope for a restock.
