A recent filing with the U.K. government has confirmed the dissolution of Ballistic Moon, the British game development studio tasked with the high-profile remake of Until Dawn. The company was formally shut down last month.
The studio, founded by former Supermassive Games developers, had been working closely with original creators Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation Studios on the modern reimagining of the classic horror title. The remake, announced for PlayStation 5 and PC, aims to leverage the power of Unreal Engine 5 to enhance the narrative-driven experience.
News of the studio's closure comes just months ahead of the game's anticipated fall release window. Industry observers note that the dissolution likely represents a corporate restructuring rather than a project cancellation. Development is believed to have been fully absorbed by PlayStation's own internal studios to ensure the title's completion, with Ballistic Moon's core contributions now concluded.
The situation highlights the often-fluid nature of game development partnerships, especially on major publisher-led projects. Fans of the franchise can still expect the remake to arrive as scheduled this autumn, albeit from a different, now-official, development entity under the PlayStation umbrella. The focus remains on delivering a visually stunning and suspenseful return to the fateful night on Blackwood Mountain.
